Senior Brent Gray will travel to College Station, Texas, this weekend to compete for the national title in the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 13-14), hosted by Texas A&M.

Gray is one of 14 athletes who will be competing in the 200-meter at McFerrin Athletic Center. The Carson, Calif., native qualified for the championships by bettering his season-best (21.20) with his second NCAA provisional mark of 20.94 at the NAU Team Competition on Feb. 7.

This will mark the final meet for the 49ers’ indoor team captain. Gray, who has earned outdoor All-America honors in each of the last two years, will have a chance to become Long Beach State’s fourth three-time All-American.

At last year’s national championship meet, Gray finished ninth, just missing out on All-America honors.

The two-time Big West Track Athlete of the Year has established himself as one of the best sprinters to ever come through the 49er program. Gray was a back-to-back Big West champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes (2007-08), while also sweeping the two sprint events at the 2008 NCAA Regional meet. In addition, Gray is the three-time reigning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation indoor champion in the 200m.

“Brent has proven his abilities and this is his last chance to improve on his previous performances,” said 49er head coach Andy Sythe. “He has certainly elevated our program and has brought us a number of school records.”

Gray wraps up his stellar career at The Beach as the indoor school record holder in the 60 (6.75) and 200 (20.93), as well as the top outdoor performer in the 100 (10.29) and 200 (20.51). Gray was also a member of the 4×100 relay squad that ran a school-record 39.66 last year.

Gray is set to run on Friday with the 200-meter preliminaries starting at 6:45pm(CT). The finals will be held later in the evening at approximately 8:10pm(CT)
