From Reports By Long Beach State Sports Information Department

Long Beach State Volleyball picked up its third Big West Player of the Week award as Brittney Herzog was honored by the conference.

The junior middle blocker had one of the best weeks in her career, leading the 49ers to three victories. Herzog started out the week with 11 kills on .579 hitting against Cal State Fullerton, not making a single attack error and adding 7 blocks. Herzog also chipped in six kills and four blocks in a three-set win over UC Santa Barbara. The 49ers were a perfect 3-0 last week.

Saving the best for last, the Herzog shined in a five-set win over Cal Poly. In a matchup between the top two teams in the conference standings, Herzog finished with a career-high 16 kills on .609 hitting, helping the 49ers pick up a much-needed road victory.

Herzog is the third 49er player to be honored with the weekly award this season. Quincy Verdin won the first award of her career two weeks ago, and Caitlin Ledoux won the award after leading the team in kills the first time The Beach played UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.

Long Beach will return to the ‘Myd tonight to take on UC Irvine, who beat LBSU a month ago in Irvine, a game in which Herzog struggled.  If Long Beach is to finish strong in conference play, it looks like Herzog will be the key.
