The obvious marquee showdown faces off Wilson against rolling Los Alamitos at Long Beach Veterans Stadium, tonight at 7p.m. The 1-2 Bruins face a tough challenge against a Griffins team (ranked #10 in the state by maxpreps.com) that has outscored its opponents 83-10 in two wins, but it’s a chance for Wilson to prove that they can score against tough competition—something that was not evident in a 39-7 loss last weekend at Los Altos.
Head out there early, as both teams’ fans will fill seats quickly. Can the Los Al juggernaut continue its breakneck pace, or will Wilson finally get its offense together and get the ball in the hands of its talented receivers?
Elsewhere, Long Beach Poly is still steaming after its surprising loss to Birmingham two weeks ago, and likely still have some pent-up frustration even after clobbering Newport Harbor last week. Tomorrow night at the Vet, the Jackrabbits will take out the rest of their anger on Carson. The game was supposed to have been televised, but Poly declined, so you’ll have to make it out to the stadium tomorrow night.
Keep your eye on Cabrillo tomorrow night as well, as the young team still struggling to find its groove takes on (gulp) Mater Dei—ye of the #3 state ranking and 108-38 advantage over two opponents thus far. Cabrillo is a long way from being able to compete with top-flight competition—evidenced by last week’s 35-0 loss to St. John Bosco—but head coach Michael Turner believes they belong on the field with anyone. Here’s his chance to prove it.
Show us something, Jaguars.
Hope you can make it out under the lights tonight and tomorrow—it’s the most wonderful time of the year.
