Long Beach State golfer Simone Hoey shot a 3-over-par 74 in Tuesday’s second round of the U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship to tie for 58th place and to advance to the field of 64, which will begin match play Wednesday.
Hoey improved by three strokes as she carded a 77 in Monday’s opening round at the 6,092-yard, par-71 Warren Golf Course at the University of Notre Dame. Her two-day 36-hole total is 9-over 151.
In Tuesday’s second round, Hoey recorded three birdies for the day, with two bogeys and two double-bogeys. On Monday, Hoey had just one birdie with five bogeys and one double-bogey.
Ariya Jutanugarn (Thailand) sits on top of the leaderboard at 7-under 135 and holds a two-stroke lead over Martina Gavier (Argentina) at 5-under.
The field of 156 players will be cut to 64 after Tuesday’s second round of stroke play. The final 64 will begin match play Wednesday, with the championship concluding on Saturday with a scheduled 36-hole final.
