
Shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round at the Omni Interlocken Golf Course, Long Beach State All-American senior Kay Hoey claimed the medalist honors at the University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational. This was Hoey’s first tournament victory since winning the Big West Conference Championship in 2007. Overall, this was her seventh career victory at LBSU.
As a team, the 49ers finished in 5th place with a 9-over 873. The Beach improved by nine shots from the day before, but couldn’t catch Notre Dame, who claimed the team title with a 6-under 858 as the Irish won by five shots over Texas Tech.
Playing in only her second collegiate tournament, freshman Lee Lopez finished in the top 10 for the second straight time and finished in 7th place. Lopez shot a 2-over 74 in the final round to finish with a 3-under 213.
Reina Rogers came back on the last day to improve with an even 72 to move up from 65th to tie for 49th. Rogers finished with an 11-over 227. Brenda Chhuor also moved up in the standings by six spots as she shot a 3-over 75 to finish tied for 59th. Erin Cylke continued with her strong performance from the second round to move up from 87th to tie for 73rd. Cylke recorded a 3-over 75 on the last day to finish 17-over 233.
The 49ers next travel up to Washington for the Edean Ihanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash, beginning on Monday, Oct. 6.
