Monday marked the third day of competition in Long Beach during the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, after Saturday and Sunday’s open water swimming events.

This morning and afternoon, cycling and volleyball faced off on Alamitos Beach and sailing kicked off at the Belmont Pier. With three of the World Games venues located in Long Beach, the city will play an active role through August 1, when the sailing and half marathon events conclude. Long Beach will have hosted seven of the 24 World Games events.

“This is the single largest sporting event in SoCal since the ‘84 Olympics,” said Jane Netherton, co-chair of the Long Beach Organizing Committee for the World Games.
