The Long Beach Armada ended a five game skid last night with a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Vipers, but we’d be having a different conversation if it weren’t for outfielder Chris Klemm.
The 27-year-old cracked a solo shot over the right-center wall in the bottom of the 4th to give his team a lead that it would not relinquish. Klemm capped his 3-4 night with another RBI single in the 6th and a double in the 8th. Oh yeah, he also tossed a mighty throw from right that stopped a Viper with the audacity to try scoring.
Armada starter Ryan Claypool earned the win, giving up just one run on a wild pitch in the fifth.
The series’ rubber match is today at 5:05pm, when the Armada will attempt to improve on their 26-27 record. They’ll host Edmonton for a four-game home series on Monday, which will culminate with a doubleheader on Wednesday. That game will also mark the end of Klemm’s run with the Armada, as he will pursue a career serving with the Orange County Fire Authority.
