Long-time member and former president Sam Breuklander answered the call to the bullpen this week and took the podium at the Long Beach Century Club meeting, introducing guest speaker Jim Lineberger.
Lineberger, Moore League Secretary and Middle School sports coordinator, talked about the Moore League Football standings box and the recent CIF polls. He also answered questions about scheduling and the transfer rules.
“It’s not if you live in Lakewood you go to Lakewood,” said Lineberger. “Kids can transfer before their first day of sophomore year… that creates a lot of issues that need to be watched carefully.”
After LBPostSports updated the club on the latest news from local football and Long Beach State, 49er Ice Hockey’s Phil Goodman talked about the new locker room “The Mine” at Glacial Gardens and the 2009-10 schedule (Opening Night 10/09/09 vs. LMU). More on their season coming very soon.
Bill Baca took a chance to get more volunteers for the Long Beach Marathon and Breuklander handed out tickets to the Millikan Basketball Car Wash Fundraiser on Saturday at the corner of Palo Verde + Spring near the Albertsons. Also we wanted to mention that the 1958-59 Poly High Football teams will be having a reunion on October 11th at Phil Trani’s. For information on the reunion and more, just come to a Century Club meeting on Tuesday nights at 6pm at The Grand.
Make sure you attend the meeting on September 29th with guests Mayor Bob Foster and LBSU coach Dan Monson.
