Most residents of Long Beach are busy rooting on the dozen-plus Long Beachians currently competing in the Olympics, but at five o’clock this evening, another Long Beach squad competing on an international level needs their help, too.  The Long Beach Pony team, which won its first World Series game on Sunday, will be playing again tonight against Hagerstown, MD, in Pennsylvania where the World Series are being held.

Tonight’s game comes after a one-day rest afforded Long Beach by their previous win, which gave them a bye in the winner’s bracket.  There is still a long road ahead of them, as they’ll need to win tonight, and then another two times in a row to capture the championship.  If they lose, they’ll need to play an additional two games to get out of the loser’s bracket.  You can listen to the game live at www.pony.org, or of course check back at LBPostSports.com later this evening to see a full writeup of the results.  The Long Beach team will be starting Ty Provencher tonight, against a team from Maryland that had no trouble at the plate in the first round, when they scored 16 runs.
