After running through the early competition, The Long Beach City College baseball team lost two straight against South Coast Conference opponents.  But on Tuesday they got back on track with a 3-2 win over visiting Pasadena City College behind the arm of Jared Smith and bat of Homstad.  The win improved the Vikings to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in the SCC.

Sophomore left fielder Matt Homstad’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in sophomore shortstop Hector Iribe from second base to break a 2-2 tie.

Long Beach held Pasadena (5-10, 2-4 SCC) to just three hits. Freshman Jared Smith allowed two runs and three hits over 6 2/3 innings, while sophomore Scott Watson (1-2) earned the win with 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief.

Pasadena’s Corey Feldmeth earned the loss. Feldmeth allowed Homstad’s hit in relief of PCC starter Eisen Castro. Castro gave up three runs (two earned) and three hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Long Beach returns to action on Thursday with a 2:30pm SCC game at rival Cerritos College
