Looks like there’s really something brewing over there with the Vikings on the Diamond.  Now they’re winning in extra innings.

Josh Rush’s pinch-hit single in the bottom of the 12th inning drove in Cory Buchheim from second base to lift the Long Beach City College baseball team to a marathon 9-8 South Coast Conference win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

The victory extended LBCC’s season-best winning streak to seven games and improved its record to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the SCC.

In the 12th, Buchheim led off with a single and moved to second on a ground out by first baseman Brian Loard. Rush lashed a 2-2 pitch from East L.A.’s Chris Machado to center field to plate the winning run.

Earlier in the ninth, the Vikings appeared to be on their way to a 6-4 win, but East L.A. rallied for two runs to send the game to extra innings.

East L.A. pulled ahead 8-6 with two runs in the top of the 10th. But Long Beach came right back to tie it up with two runs of its own. Designated hitter Randy Guite and Loard hit back-to-back doubles to bring in the game-tying runs.

Loard had a big day at the plate, going 4 for 6 with 3 RBI, including a solo homerun in the fourth inning. Guite (2 for 5) also drove in three runs for LBCC.  Sophomore Teddy Mitrosilis (2-1) earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits and struck out four.

Long Beach returns to action on Thursday (Mar 5) when it travels to Mt. San Antonio College for a 3 p.m. SCC game.
