8:15am | The 2011 Central West Conference champion Long Beach City College (LBCC) football team will extend its season by one more game and will face Golden West College in the Central Championship Bowl on Saturday, November 19. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm at Orange Coast College’s LeBard Stadium.

Long Beach closed out the regular season on Saturday with a 28-9 loss to Citrus College, but had already wrapped up the conference title and bowl game bid prior to the contest. The conference title and bowl game bid are the first for fourth-year head coach Mike Reisbig.

LBCC enters the bowl game with a 5-5 overall record and was 4-1 in conference play. Long Beach was ranked No. 18 in the final CCCAA/CCCFCA Southern California Poll.

Golden West enters the contest with a 6-4 overall record and finished in second place in the Central East Conference. The Rustlers are coming off a 30-28 win at College of the Desert on Saturday. Golden West closed the regular season ranked tied for eighth in the Southern California poll.

The Vikings will look to extract some revenge on the Rustlers after Golden West shutout Long Beach 42-0 in both teams’ season opener on September 3. Since the loss, LBCC has scored 341 points, averaging nearly 38 points over its last nine games.

Long Beach will be making its 18th bowl game appearance overall and first since 2005. LBCC is 11-6 in its previous bowl games and has won three straight.
