10:00pm |  Sophomore forward Chris Brown scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds but the Long Beach City College men’s basketball team couldn’t complete a late-game comeback in a 61-53 South Coast Conference South Division loss to visiting El Camino College on Tuesday night at the Hall of Champions Gym.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 6-14 overall and 2-2 in the SCC South standings while El Camino improved to 6-13 and 3-1 in division play.

Trailing 32-28 at halftime, the Vikings slowly began to chip away at the Warriors led midway through the second half. LBCC was down 47-40 at the 14-26 mark before the Vikings got five points from Brown and two points from sophomore guard Leo Arnold in a 7-0 run that tied the game at 47 with 7:08 left in the game.

El Camino jumped ahead again, but Long Beach was able to tie up the contest 50-50 with 3:25 to go after a pair of Arnold free throws.

But back-to-back three pointers late by El Camino’s Eric Myles (2:37) and Wendell Lee (1:15) secured the win for the Warriors.

Arnold posted 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists for the Vikings in the loss.

Lee led El Camino with 20 points and eight rebounds and Isaiah Jenkins poured in 18 points to go with six rebounds and four assists.

LBCC returns to action on Friday (Feb. 5) when it hosts L.A. Southwest College in a 7:30 pm SCC South Division game.
