The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball continued its unbeaten streak to four matches after its three-game sweep of visiting Irvine Valley College on Friday night.
Long Beach won the non-conference match by scores of 30-26, 30-24, and 30-2 to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Vikings have yet to lose a game. Irvine Valley fell to 2-2 overall.
The last time these two squads met was at last year’s state championship semifinals. IVC swept the Vikings on their way to the state title.
“The sophomores were ready for the match and really wanted the win,” said LBCC head coach Randy Totorp. “I think they made a statement. I’m sure we will probably see Irvine Valley later on in the postseason.”
Sophomore outside hitter Antwain Aguillard led LBCC with 13 kills and six blocks.
Sophomore setter Chuck Chamberlain had a good night with 27 assists, 10 kills, 10 digs, and five blocks. Freshman outside hitter Fidelix Ojo chipped in with seven kills and four blocks.
LBCC returns to action next Wednesday (Feb. 18) with a non-conference match at Palomar College at 6 p.m.
