The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team rolled to its eighth straight win thanks to a three-game sweep of visiting El Camino College on Friday night at LBCC.

Long Beach (13-1, 7-0) won the Western State Conference match over El Camino (5-9, 1-6) by scores of 31-29, 30-26, and 30-28 to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Vikings had to dig their way out of an early hole in game one. Long Beach trailed 12-8 in the opener before rallying late for the win.  After that it was all LBCC.

“We had just completed a string of four straight matches where we played great volleyball,” said LBCC head coach Randy Totorp. “We were bound to slip up somewhere. What matters most is that we still found a way to win. Our team is still focused on its goal of winning a conference championship and then a state title.”

Sophomore middle blocker Antwain Aguillard had a good match, posting 11 kills, three blocks, and one ace. Sophomore setter Andrew Marques led LBCC with 47 assists and added a block and ace. Freshman middle blocker Fidelix Ojo posted a match-high 15 kills.

Long Beach returns to action on Wednesday (Apr 1) when it travels to Santa Barbara City College for a 6pm conference match.
