Freshman designated player Monique Ogata’s bases-loaded walk to force in a run in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Long Beach City College softball team a 2-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Wednesday.

The game originally began on February 25 and was halted because of darkness with the score tied 1-1 after 10 innings.

After a scoreless 11th inning, sophomore shortstop Rose Vargas led off the bottom of the 12th with a walk. She moved to second base on sophomore left fielder Karina Martinez’ bunt single. Freshman Valentina Nabayan was then hit by Heather Ward’s pitch to load up the bases for Ogata.  Ogata walked on five pitches to force in Vargas for the winning run.

Sophomore Christine Gonzalez (11-4) finished up her game for the win. She came out strong, striking out the side in the top of the 11th. Gonzalez closed the game allowing just four hits and one unearned run over 12 innings while striking out nine.  Martinez was 3 for 6 with a run to lead LBCC at the plate.
