
The Long Beach City College swimming and diving teams won three of its four dual meets at a South Coast Conference three-way meet on Friday at LBCC.
The LBCC men edged rival Cerritos College 66-64 and easily defeated Los Angeles Trade Tech College 110-10. The Long Beach women downed L.A. Trade Tech 107-18 but fell to Cerritos 84-43.
The Long Beach men improved to 3-1 in SCC dual meets while the LBCC women moved to 2-2 in conference action.
Cerritos’ men beat L.A. Trade Tech 118-10 and the Falcon women were 110-12 winners over the Beavers.
The Viking men took first place overall in nine of 15 events. The meet came down to the final event as the Long Beach team of Sasa Branisaljevic, Daniel Furmanov, Dusan Ivanovski, and Marko Miljanovic easily took the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:23.87. Cerritos was second at 3:34.47.
Branisaljevic had a good day, taking first in the 200 freestyle at 1:51.89 and in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.62.
Kenji Miyahara was also a double-winner for LBCC, capturing first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:26.70 and in the 100 butterfly at 55.44.
Jacob Lyons also won two events, finishing first in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.31) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.20).
Other first-place finishes for the LBCC men were Furmanov in the 200 butterfly (2:16.93) and Ivanovski in the 100 freestyle (51.56).
On the women’s side, Long Beach took first place in four events.
Leading the Vikings was sophomore Mieke Howell. She was first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 33.04 and won the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.89.
Ashley Cordobes was the winner of 200 freestyle at 2:11.38 while Sarah Bostic captured the 1-meter intermediate dive with a score of 135.85.
The LBCC swimming and diving teams return to action next Friday (Mar 20) at 2:30 p.m. when they host Mt. San Antonio College in a SCC dual meet.
