The Long Beach City College women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-1 South Coast Conference match to visiting Cerritos College on Friday night at LBCC.
Cerritos won the match by scores of 23-25, 26-24, 25-18, and 25-20. With the loss, the Vikings fell to 3-6 overall 2-1 in conference play while Cerritos improved to 4-2 and 1-0 in the SCC.
The Vikings erased a 22-19 deficit to come-from-behind in game 1 and steal the opener and looked poised to take the second game before Cerritos mounted a late comeback of its own.
Long Beach led 23-19 in game 2 before Cerritos rallied to tie the game at 24. Cerritos closed it out scoring the final three points for the win.
From there, it was all Cerritos. The Falcons stormed out to big leads in game three and four and were never challenged.
For Long Beach, sophomores Kathy Hunt, and freshmen Ceci Cisneros and Marlené Dusek all posted 11 kills. Freshman Seferina Starks totaled 20 digs and sophomore Nikki Moe had 36 assists.
Cerritos was led by Chanelle Puou’s 13 kills. Angelica Sievers had 18 digs and Monique Gayton totaled 38 assists.
Long Beach returns to action on September 30 when it travels to Chaffey College for a 5 p.m. non-conference match.
