The Long Beach City College women’s soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 non-conference loss to visiting Orange Coast College on Tuesday at LBCC.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 2-3 on the season while Orange Coast improved to 4-0.

OCC was able to pull out the evenly matched contest. The Pirates narrowly edged LBCC in shots by an 18-15 margin.

Taryn Bales scored the game’s lone goal for Orange Coast in the 58th minute. She took a long breakaway pass down the left side from Sarah Gomez and beat LBCC freshman goalkeeper Sara Thatcher for the game-winner.

The Vikings had chances of its own to get on the scoreboard. In the 52nd minute, freshman forward Claudia Toledo’s shot on a breakaway just missed the top left corner of the goal. Also, freshman forward Ashlyn Bolt’s header in the 63rd minute just sailed above the crossbar.

Thatcher and OCC goalie Claudia Airas both posted seven saves.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday when it hosts Citrus College in a non-conference game.
