The Long Beach City College women’s soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday at LBCC.

The loss dropped Long Beach to 12-7 overall and 9-4 in the SCC, while Mt. SAC improved to 12-5-2 and 10-2-1 in conference play.

A win could have catapulted the Vikings over Mt. SAC into second place in the SCC standings, but instead Long Beach will finish the conference schedule in third place regardless of the outcome of Friday’s SCC finale.

Today’s match was a physical contest as the two teams totaled 38 fouls.

After a scoreless first half, the Vikings came out in the second half controlling the tempo of play. But Long Beach couldn’t finish it chances.

Mt. SAC finally got the game-winner in the 82nd minute. Sarah Hanna sent a cross pass from the left side to a streaking Jennifer Rivera. Rivera placed her shot in the lower left corner of the net past LBCC’s Sara Thatcher for the game’s lone goal.

Mt. SAC had two chances in the first half turned away thanks to a pair of empty-net saves by defender Alisha Tasch-Brown in the fourth and 33rd minute.

Thatcher posted five saves in goal for the Vikings, while the Mounties’ Dianna Zambrano posted four saves in the shutout.

LBCC closes out the regular season on Friday (Nov. 13) at 3 p.m. with a South Coast Conference game at Pasadena City College.
