Freshman midfielder Lauren Ingram scored a pair of goals to lead the Long Beach City College women’s soccer team to a 2-0 non-conference win over visiting Citrus College on Friday afternoon at LBCC.

The win evened the Vikings’ record at 3-3 while Citrus dropped to 2-2-2 overall.

Long Beach took the lead in the 23rd minute. After a LBCC corner kick was cleared away, freshman defender Alisha Del Toro sent a long cross pass to Ingram on the right side. Ingram nailed a shot from 20 yards out past Citrus goalkeeper Lauren Guzman to put the Vikings on the scoreboard.

Citrus nearly tied up the contest just moments before the halftime whistle.

In the 45th minute, midfielder Margarita Bernal’s long shot hit the cross bar. With Viking goalie Sara Thatcher out of position, Citrus forward Daisy Chamorro took the rebound and sent a shot that was stopped by LBCC sophomore defender Angela Fornaseri to preserve the lead.

The Vikings added an insurance goal in the 86th minute. The Vikings were awarded a penalty kick after a LBCC player was fouled in the box.

Ingram sent the PK attempt to the lower right corner past Guzman for the final score of the contest.

Thatcher posted three saves for the Vikings in the shutout. Guzman totaled six saves in the losing effort for the Owls.

Long Beach will have over two weeks until its next game. The Vikings open South Coast Conference play at home against El Camino College-Compton Center on September 29 at 4 p.m.
