Freshman center Lynnsie Naulls scored 17 points and freshman forward Rayven Sellers added 16 points as the Long Beach City College women’s basketball team nearly upset South Coast Conference South Division leader L.A. Southwest College. The Vikings put together its best game of the season, but fell by a final score of 57-53 on Friday night in their home finale at the Hall of Champions Gym. The loss dropped LBCC to 3-19 overall and 0-4 in the SCC South.

Trailing 26-20 at halftime, the Vikings turned up in the second. LBCC was down 33-24 at the 15:34 mark before completing a 13-4 run that tied the score 37-37 with 10:30 to go. A layup by Sellers with 9:26 left in game gave the Vikings their first lead of the second half.

With LBCC up 42-40, Naulls fouled out with 7:43 remaining. From that point, it was all L.A. Southwest as the Cougars took advantage of late LBCC turnovers to escape with the win. Long Beach got within three points (56-53) with 16 seconds left after a three-pointer from freshman guard Jocelyn Arce, but would get no closer.

Sellers grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds to go with her 16 points, while Naulls also had a double-double with 11 rebounds and her 17 points. Arce also chipped in with 10 points and four assists.
