The Long Beach City College women’s basketball team suffered a 56-44 South Coast Conference interdivision loss to visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday night at the Hall of Champions Gym.

The loss dropped Long Beach to 3-11 overall while East L.A. evened its record at 8-8.

Poor shooting doomed the Vikings. Long Beach shot just 30 percent from the field for the game (17 of 57) and made just 5 of 17 field goal attempts. East L.A. was also able to turn 24 LBCC turnovers into 18 points.

Long Beach trailed 32-25 at halftime and got as close at 47-42 with 2:52 left in the game. But the Huskies outscored LBCC 9-2 down the stretch to hold on for the win.

LBCC freshman forward Rayven Sellers returned to the lineup after an injury and posted a double-double with game highs of 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Freshman guard Jocelyn Arce poured in 12 points, freshman guard Vanessa Sullivan had 11 points, and freshman center Maria Loera grabbed 11 rebounds.

Amanda Ramirez led East L.A. with 13 points while Miriam Hernandez added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Long Beach returns to action tomorrow night (Dec. 30) when it hosts Santa Barbara City College in a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game.
