Long Beach City College women’s soccer announced today that Hayley Gonzales signed a National Letter of Intent in July to continue her academic and athletic career with the University of Idaho. She is currently in training with the Vandals in preparation for their season opener scheduled for August 21 against Indiana State University.
Located in Moscow, Idaho, the university competes at the NCAA Division 1 level and is a member of the Big Sky Conference. According to the announcement, Gonzales was one of three late signees this summer for Idaho head coach Derek Pittman.
“Hayley is a very versatile player that will add some needed depth to our midfield group,” said Pittman in a press release on the signing. “We see her as a potential wide midfielder or even possibly an outside back, but her best attributes will be in the attack because she is a technical player that has good vision and passing ability.”
He said her overall competitive nature, quickness and sharpness on the ball will be an asset on the field and gave the team a new element to their attack strategy.
According to the release, Gonzales played one season at LBCC and earned second-team All-South Coast Conference honors as a sophomore in 2014. She scored five goals and assisted two from the midfield position.
“Hayley is an excellent player with a tremendous work ethic and work rate,” said LBCC head coach Sean Reeves in a statement. “With her abilities, she has the capability to excel as a player and will succeed at the next level.”
He added that her desire to lead and push her team to win will help her excel at Idaho.
Before her LBCC stint, Gonzales played her freshman season at Vanguard University in 2012 after prepping at Calvary Chapel High School.
