The Long Beach City College women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to visiting No. 2 state-ranked El Camino College on Wednesday night at LBCC. The Vikings were swept in the South Coast Conference match by scores of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-20.

The loss dropped Long Beach to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in the SCC while El Camino improved to 21-1 and 12-1 in conference play.

After a quick first game loss, the Vikings kept things close in game two. LBCC actually held a 12-10 advantage before exchanging leads with the Warriors until the score was tied 18-18. El Camino went on to outscore Long Beach 7-1 to close out the game and take the 2-0 match advantage.

It was more of the same in game three. Following a kill by freshman Courtney Foster, LBCC was up 12-10. But El Camino went on a 12-3 run to put the game out of reach at 21-15 before taking game three by a final score of 25-20.

Freshman Seferina Starks led LBCC with 10 kills. Sophomore Nikki Moe posted 24 assists, four aces, and three digs in the losing effort.

El Camino’s Sarah Prather and Yacine Meyer both totaled 10 kills to lead their squad. Kayelani Tanuvasa had 27 assists and Kiley Tamblin led all with 12 digs.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Nov. 6) when it hosts East Los Angeles College in a 6 p.m. SCC match.
