The Long Beach City College women’s volleyball team closed the 2009 regular season home schedule with a 3-0 South Coast Conference loss to No. 3 state-ranked Pasadena City College on Friday night at LBCC.

Long Beach lost the match by scores of 25-14, 25-15, and 27-25 to fall to 10-12 overall and 8-7 in the SCC. Pasadena won its 20th straight match to improve to 21-1 and 15-0 in conference play.

Pasadena was too much for LBCC in the first two sets, but the Vikings finally showed some life in the third.

The Vikings took an early 5-4 lead before Pasadena jumped ahead with a commanding 20-13 advantage.

But behind the serving of sophomore Lauren Nieraeth (3 aces), the Vikings rolled for 10 straight points to go in front of PCC 23-20.

Pasadena rallied to tie it up at 23 before the Vikings and Lancers exchanged points until Galia Sotomayor’s kill gave Pasadena the 27-25 set win as well as the match.

Freshman Ceci Cisneros led the Vikings with nine kills. Freshman Seferina Starks added seven kills and eight digs, while sophomore Nikki Moe posted 27 assists and eight digs.

For Pasadena, Jessica Xu had a good all-around match with 17 assists, six digs, five kills, and two blocks.

Long Beach closes out the season next Wednesday (Nov. 18) when it travels to Mt. San Antonio College for a 6 p.m. SCC match.
