With two top-five finishes in the first two meets of the season, LBCC’s men’s cross country team is off to an exciting start.
The Vikings opened up the season with a fourth-place finish out of 12 teams at the Ventura Invitational on September 4th. LBCC scored 104 points thanks to four top-25 individual placings.
Freshman Edwin Rodriguez topped the Vikings with a time of 23:05 for the four-mile course, giving him a 6th place finish. Doug Curran (Soph) was 19th at 23:46, followed by freshmen Charles Brewer in 22nd (24:00) and Javier Ramos in 24th (24:02).
Los Angeles Trade Tech College won the men’s event with 57 points, while El Camino’s Jose Lezama was first with a time of 21:35.
Long Beach topped that performance with a third-place finish last Friday out of eight teams at the Palomar College Invitational.
The men earned a total of 80 points, with Rodriguez again leading the Vikings at 22:23 for a 7th place finish. Ramos (10th) and Brewer (12th) were both less than a minute behind, with times of 22:38 and 22:46, respectively.
Host Palomar won the men’s event, with 37 points, while Palomar’s Alexander Avilez finished first with a time of 21:52.
Both the LBCC men’s and women’s teams will be in action on Saturday, September 19th at the Orange Coast Classic at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
