Jeff Greenwood recorded a hat-trick scoring three goals for the The Beach as the ninth-ranked 49ers defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 10-6, in the consolation bracket of the NorCal Tournament at Stanford Saturday afternoon; earlier in the day they lost a 9-8 decision to UC Irvine. Long Beach is now 1-2 on the season.
Greenwood notched five goals for the day to lead the 49ers. Patrick van der Linde added two goals and Taylor Clute, Matthew Kubeck, Shane Luth, Kevin Mundia, and Joe Sherrin each scored a goal to help the 49ers to their first win of the season.
The 49ers led 6-2 at halftime and held off a late rally by Pomona-Pitzer to secure the victory. Derek Wiebe-Bailey had nine saves and 20 for the day. Ben Hadley led the Sagehens with three goals.
The 49ers face the winner of UC San Diego/Concordia at 10:40 a.m. in the Belardi Pool.
