The No. 9 Long Beach State men’s water polo team took 9th place at the prestigious NorCal Invitational today, defeating Santa Clara 10-8 in overtime.

Alexsandr Petrovic scored four goals to lead the 49ers (3-2). Jeff Greenwood added two goals and amassed 11 goals in four games at the tournament. Kevin Mundia scored two goals and Taylor Clute and Matt Farrington each chipped in a goal for The Beach. Derek Wiebe-Bailey had seven saves for the 49ers.

Santa Clara (8-4) took a 3-2 lead into the second period, but The Beach took a one goal lead at halftime. The Broncos caught up in the third, and each team scored twice in the final quarter to force the match into overtime. Santa Clara couldn’t hold on though, as the 49ers ran away with the win after scoring two goals.
