Despite seven goals from six different 49ers, Long Beach State finished its 2010 campaign with a 12-7 loss to UC Davis on the concluding day of the Big West Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Long Beach State Campus Pool.

Long Beach State (8-21) met the Aggie’s of UC Davis (16-17) for the third time this season in their final game of the 2010 Big West Conference Tournament and the season. The first two matches between the two squads were separated by just a couple of goals with the Aggie’s winning both matches, 8-7 and 8-6.

Sunday afternoon, offense was the name of the game for the first half of the game, with both teams combining to score 10 goals. Junior Lauren Sieprath led The Beach in scoring with two goals.

Tensions mounted throughout the game for both LBSU and UC Davis as exclusions and fouls ran rampant on both sides of the pool. But the teams played through the frustration as each side took three five-meter penalty shots and both sides converted two each for the game.

UC Davis scored five of the six goals in the third period to take a 11-5 lead into the fourth quarter and breaking open a close game.

UC Davis took the 12-7 victory to a fifth place finish in the conference tournament, while Long Beach State finished in sixth. The 49ers finish their 2010 season with a record of 8-21.
