Long Beach State senior Michael Drake fired a four-under par 68 in Wednesday’s final round of the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate to finish in a two-way tie for third place with Rick Lamb of Santa Clara. Drake finished one stroke behind Andrew Cooley and Alex Kang of San Diego State as both players tied for first.

Playing the final 18 holes on the par-72, 6,662 yard George Fazio Course at the Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, Hawaii, Drake finished the three-day tournament at six-under 210 (70-72). He carded the final round with a total of six birdies and two bogeys, three of those birdies coming consecutively at Nos. 3-5.

As a team, the 49ers were four-under 284 on the day to finish in fourth with a one-under 863 (285-294). San Diego State captured the team championship by 18 strokes with a 26-under 838. Illinois (856) finished in second, followed by Santa Clara (861) in third.

Freshman Benjamin Lein shot a one-over 73 as he fell six spots in the standings to finish in 17th with a tournament total of two-over 218 (70-75).

Finishing just one stroke behind was senior Steve Gibson as he recorded his best round with a two-under 70 to move up from 31st to tie for 18th. Gibson carded five birdies and three bogeys for the round for a total of three-over 219 (75-74).

Freshman Raymond Ho concluded the tournament with a one-over 73 as he fell from 16th to tie for 26th with a four-over 220.

Sophomore Kevin Roy finished with a 77 for a nine-over 225 to tie for 40th. 

The 49ers return to action for their last tournament of the fall season as they travel up to Northern California for the CordeValle Intercollegiate, Nov. 9-11, hosted by San Jose State.
