Long Beach State shot a 306 in Tuesday’s final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert to finish in seventh place. The 49ers fell four spots in the standings as they recorded a 298 and 286 on Monday to finish in third. LBSU finished the 54-hole two-day tournament with a score of 26-over par 890 at the par-72, 7,322 yard Desert Club.
Santa Clara was able to hold onto first place with an eight-over 872 as the Broncos won by four-strokes over second place Cal State Northridge (876) and five-strokes over third place Nebraska (877).
The 49ers were led by freshman Raymond Ho as he carded a final round 76 to finish with three-over 219. Ho tied for 15th with Scott Clayton of UC Riverside.
Senior Steve Gibson finished second for The Beach as he tied for 18th with a 76 as he accumulated a five-over 221.
Senior Michael Drake and sophomore Kevin Roy both tied for 43rd with a 10-over 226. Drake shot a 78 in Tuesday’s final round, while Roy recorded a 76.
Freshman Benjamin Lein tied for 70th as finished with an 16-over 232.
Gabe Maier of Wyoming held onto the top spot as he claimed the individual medalist with an eight-under 208. Maier won by three-shots over second place Scott Travers (211) of Santa Clara.
The 49ers will next be action as they return take part in The Prestige of PGA West hosted by San Francisco and Stanford. The three-day tournament will take place Oct. 11-13 in La Quinta, Calif.
