After three days of competition at The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, the Long Beach State men’s golf team finished in 12th place as the 49ers carded a 12-over par 300 in Tuesday’s final round at the par-72, 7,300 yard Stadium Course. LBSU recorded their best round of the tournament as they had scores of 308 and 309 in the first two days.
TCU won the team championship for the second year in a row as the Horned Frogs fired a 12-under 276 to finish with a total score of 14-under 850. Second place Stanford (866) finished 16-strokes back and third place Washington (869) finished 19-shots behind.
Freshmen Philip Chian and Raymond Ho and sophomore Kevin Roy finished tied for 57th, as all three players recorded a tournament total of 14-over 230. Chian shot a 75 to move up two spots, while Ho came in with a 76 to move up by one and Roy fired a 74 to move up from 63rd.
Senior Steve Gibson recorded his best round of the tournament with a 75 for a 236 to move up in the standings to finish in 73rd, while classmate Robbie Berton, shot an 83 to finish with a 240 as he tied for 75th.
Daniel Jennevret of TCU won the individual medalist with a 12-under 204 as he won by six-strokes over second place Pedro Figueiredo (210) of UCLA and eight-shots over three players tied for third place.
The 49ers return to action Oct. 22-23, as they host 14th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach. Admission is free.
