After two rounds of play at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate, the Long Beach State men’s golf team carded a six-over par 294 on Tuesday afternoon to tie for third place with Illinois. Playing on the par-72, 7,143 yard Arnold Palmer Course at the Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, Hawaii, the 49ers are now three-over 579 for the tournament with the final 18 holes concluding on Wednesday.
San Diego State continues to lead the field of 12 teams with a 564 and holds a 12-stroke lead over second place Santa Clara (576).
Senior Michael Drake was the top player for LBSU as he shot an even-72 to finish in a two-way tie for fourth. Drake recorded an eagle on the par-five 574 yard ninth hole.
Freshman Benjamin Lein shot a 75 to drop in the standings from third to tie for 11th, while fellow classmateRaymond Ho shot a 73 to move up ten spots to tie for 16th.
Sophomore Kevin Roy recorded a 77 on Tuesday’s second round to tie for 19th.
Senior Steve Gibson improved by one shot as he finished with a 74 to move up from 38th to tie for 31st.
Andrew Cooley of San Diego State sits on top the leaderboard as he leads the field of 64 players by one shot over second place Rick Lamb of Santa Clara.
