Long Beach State senior Michael Drake shot a three-over par 75 in Wednesday’s final round of the Gifford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif. to move up in the standings from 61st to tie for 54th place.

Drake came away with six bogeys and three birdies on the final day of competition at the CordeValle Resort Country Club as he recorded rounds of 76 and 72 in the first two days to finish with a tournament total of seven-over 223.

LBSU recorded a final round of 17-over 377 to finish in 14th as the 49ers completed the three-day tournament at 40-over 1120. The Beach had rounds of 382 and 361 in the first two days.

Stanford claimed the team title with a 24-under 1056 as the Cardinal held off second place Oklahoma State (1059) by three-strokes and third place Augusta State (1061) by five.

Freshmen Philip Chian and Raymond Ho tied for 65th as both players finished at nine-over 225. Chian had rounds of 78-74-73 as he slipped from 65th in the standings, while Ho had rounds of 77-73-75 as he fell five spots.

Sophomore Kevin Roy finished with a 10-over 226 (76-75-75) to move up from 76th to tie for 72nd.

Senior Steve Gibson and freshman Benjamin Lein tied for 78th with a 12-over 228. Gibson carded rounds of 75-74-79 as he fell from 66th, while Lein shot a 78-68-82 to fall from 43rd.

Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State captured the individual medalist with a 14-under 202 to lead the field of 88 players. Uihlein held onto the lead by five-strokes over second place Sihway Kim (207) of Stanford. 

The 49ers concluded the fall schedule with the Gifford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle and will return to action Feb. 14-16, as they co-host the inaugural Battle at the Beach with UCLA. The three-day tournament will take place at the Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast, Calif.
