The No.9 49ers (2-2) started off the second day of the NorCal Tournament in style, taking down the No. 17 UC San Diego Tritons (4-6) in a hard fought 11-7 victory, Sunday at the Belardi Pool.
Less than 24 hours after losing to No. 8 UC Irvine, The Beach has pulled out two straight victories and will play Santa Clara at 5:20 p.m. PT for ninth-place. Jeff Greenwood led the 49ers with four goals and has scored nine goals in three games at the tournament.
The Beach led the entire match holding leads at the end of every period and held off a late rally to earn their second straight victory. Taylor Clute scored two goals and Shane Luth, Kevin Mundia, Alexsandr Petrovic, Joe Sherrin, and Patrick van der Linde each added goals for the 49ers.
Goalie Derek Weibe-Bailey rounded out the strong team effort with seven goalie saves.
