Freshman T.J. Robinson played 45 minutes on Saturday night, and every second was worth it  as he’s been named the Big West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time.

The West Haven, Connecticut native averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds per game while making 69.6 percent (16-of-23) of his field goal attempts and 76.2 percent of his free throws (16-of-21).

Robinson attended St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale last year where he averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and was named MVP.

On Thursday against UC Davis, he scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in LBSU’s loss.  In that game he made 8-of-14 shots (57.1 percent) and 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) of his free throws.  On Saturday against Pacific, the freshman forward matched his career high with 24 points while grabbing 10 rebounds in The Beach’s 81-80 double-overtime win. Robinson made 8-of-9 shots (88.9 percent) and 8-of-10 free throws (80 percent).

The player of the week honor is the first of the season for Robinson and the fourth of the year for a Long Beach State player. Senior Donovan Morris won it three times during non-league play.
