Long Beach State recorded a 291 in Tuesday’s final round of the Triumph at Pauma Valley to move up in the standings from sixth place to fourth. The 49ers shot a 307 and 282 on Monday to finish with a total score of 28-over par 880 at the Pauma Valley Golf Club.
LBSU finished just one stroke back behind third place San Francisco (879) and eight shots back of British Columbia (872), which finished second. Loyola Marymount (856) claimed the team title as the Lions won by a comfortable 16 shots.
Junior Michael Drake was the top individual for The Beach as he finished tied for 10th place. Drake recorded five birdies in the final round to finish with a four-over 75 for a tournament total of five-over 218.
Freshman Kevin Lim made a significant jump in the standings as he fired a two-under 69 to finish tied for 14th. Lim shot an 81 and 70 on Monday as he finished tied for 37th, as he committed just two bogey’s for the day, while recording four birdies.
Junior Steve Gibson remained tied for 19th as he finished with a tournament total of 222. Gibson shot a 75 in Tuesday’s final round.
Freshman Kevin Roy (225) tied for 35th with a 72, followed by Bobby Barajas (228) tied for 44th with a 77.
Junior Aaron Slonim, playing as individual, tied for 41st with a 227.
The 49ers are back in action as they travel to the 63rd Annual Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State. The three-day tournament begins on Sunday, Mar. 29, at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz.
