Well, Andy Read wasted no time.  After officially getting the job earlier this week, the interim head men’s volleyball coach at Long Beach State has announced the signing of two players to National Letter’s of Intent during the spring signing period.

Antwain Aguillard (Long Beach City College/Las Vegas, Nev.) and Trevor Crabb (Punahou High School/Honolulu, Hawaii) committed to Long Beach State bringing the 2008-09 recruiting class to six. Jack Powell (Granite High School), Ian Satterfield (Mira Costa HS/Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Dalton Ammerman (Chaparral HS/Parker, Colo.) and McKay Smith (Dana Hills HS/Laguna Niguel, Calif.) all signed with The Beach during the November early-signing period.

Aguillard played two seasons at Long Beach City College where he led the team to a state championship as a sophomore and a third-place finish in the state tournament as a freshman. He was named California Community College Men’s Volleyball State Player of the Year, Western States Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-Western States Conference as a sophomore after finishing the season with 201 kills, a .555 hitting percentage (201-29-310), 4.3 kills per set, 21 solo blocks and 99 block assists. The middle blocker led the conference in hitting percentage and blocks. In the state championship game, Aguillard finished with 20 kills and no errors while hitting a remarkable .714. As a freshman, Aguillard was named second-team All-Western States Conference. In high school, Aguillard was named first-team all-conference at Bishop Gorham High School as a senior in 2007.

Crabb played outside hitter for the Outrigger Canoe Club 12, 14, 16 and 17’s teams. In 2006 his 17U team finished second in the JO 2006 Open. He lettered in basketball three times in high school, starting at post on the 2008 Hawaii State Championship team. Crabb went on to play one season of college basketball at the University of Puget Sound where he helped the Loggers to a Northwest Conference championship last season and a spot in the NCAA Division III “Sweet 16”.
