Dean Bittner had 22 kills and hit .405 but it wasn’t enough for Long Beach State in a 30-28, 30-28, 30-27 Penn State win Saturday night in the final game of the Active Ankle Tournament at the Walter Pyramid.

Jim Baughman added 14 kills and a .444 hitting percentage for The Beach, who his .340 as a team in the loss.  Tommy Pestolesi finished with 10 digs.  Will Price led Penn State with 21 kills.

The Nittany Lions (15-3) got out to the early lead beating the 49ers by two in the first game.  Max Lipsitz led PSU with seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage (7-0-10).  Baughman and Bittner paced The Beach with six kills each in the opening game.  Baughman also had five digs and hit .556 as the 49ers hit .306 as a team.  Penn State was even better on the attack hitting .349.

Penn State built on the lead winning the second game by two again.  Bittner led the 49ers (11-8) with six more kills in the game, while Pestolesi (.667 hitting percentage) and Baughman had four kills each.  The Beach lost the game despite hitting .343.

The Nittany Lions wrapped it up in the final game winning by three.  Bittner had 10 of his kills in the game and hit .500.  Baughman had four kills.
