
Long Beach State rallied for a game two win over Pepperdine behind 26 kills from Dean Bittner, but the 49ers were defeated 30-22, 25-30, 31-29, 30-28 by Pepperdine on the road Saturday.
Bittner had 26 kills on .380 hitting but the 49ers were outhit on the match .351 to .286 as the Waves grbbed the win to improve to 16-2, while Long Beach State fell to 10-12 on the year.
The Waves started out quickly, hitting .344 over the first set in a 30-22 win while holding Long Beach State to its lowest hitting percentage at .154. The 49ers rebounded in set two, hitting .357 on the way to a 30-25 win to even the match.
The Waves pulled out a pair of two-point wins in the final two games to get the win. Paul Carroll led the Waves with 22 kills, one of three Pepperdine players over 10 kills. Offensively, the 49ers were led by Bittner with 26 kills, and middle blocker Dan Alexander posted 10 kills on .500 hitting.
Men’s Volleyball is back in action on April 3, when the 49ers host Stanford in the ‘Myd. That match is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
