Reports From LBSU

Freshman Jaklin Alawi earned first-team All-Big West honors in both singles and doubles for women’s tennis, paving the way to being named the Big West Freshman of the Year. Rachel Manasse joined her teammate Alawi for first-team doubles honors, while Anais Dallara was also named to the first team for singles.

Long Beach State tied for a league-high three players honored in singles, as well as joining Cal Poly with two players honored on the first team. Sophomore Dallara was named All-Big West for the second straight year, picking up first-team honors for the first time, while Alawi was named to the first-team as well.

Junior Deborah Armstrong picked up All-Big West honors for the third time, earning an honorable mention while playing primarily at No. 3 singles for the regular season champion 49ers.

Alawi also earned first team honors in doubles with partner Rachel Manasse, while the duo of Armstrong and Dallara were a second-team All-Big West selection.

Alawi’s nod as the Big West Freshman of the Year is the first for the Long Beach State program since 2008, when Stephanie Jeanes won the award. Given since 2005, Long Beach State has had four of the six winners of the award, with Hannah Grady and Stephanie Bengson also earning the honor.
