The Long Beach State women’s soccer team out shot host Cal Poly, but was unable to get on the board in a 1-0 loss to the Mustangs Sunday afternoon at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

The 49ers (5-8-2, 1-3-0 BWC) held a commanding 15-to-8 advantage in shots, with six coming on goal. LBSU was led by junior Karina Camacho, who fired off a season-high seven attempts.

Junior Lindsay Bullock added three shots and appeared to have evened the score at 1-1 with what would have been her fourth goal of the season. In the 73rd minute, Bullock headed the ball off a corner kick from Camacho that was deflected toward the post by Mustang goalkeeper Coral Hoover. LBSU claimed a goal, while Cal Poly claimed the save and a discussion by the officials ended up in a no-goal call.

The Beach also had an opportunity to tie the game in the 50th minute when Camacho settled a pass from freshman Nadia Link and drilled a shot from 10 yards out, but Hoover was able to make a diving save.

After a scoreless first half, Tiffany Gummow put Cal Poly (11-5-0, 5-1-0 BWC) ahead at the 46:28 mark when she drove down the left side before taking a shot that deflected off 49er goalie Emily Kingsborough’s hands to the far post. Gummow had a team-high three shots, while Hoover finished with six saves.

Long Beach State returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 22, when it welcomes Cal State Fullerton to George Allen Field for a 3 p.m. Big West showdown. The 49ers continue conference action on Sunday, Oct. 25, as it is set to take on UC Riverside in its final regular season home game.
