Reports From LBSU

Three members of the Long Beach State track and field team concluded the first day of action at the Big West Multi-Events Championship Friday afternoon at Cal State Northridge’s Matador Track.

After the first five events of the decathlon, Nicholas Armstrong sits in second place with 3,740 points. Armstrong highlighted the afternoon with a victory in the high jump as he cleared 6-08.75.

Armstrong also took fourth in the long jump with a lifetime-best 21-07.25, while adding a pair of fifth-place performances in the 100-meter dash (11.41) and the shot put (39-09.25). He finished the day strong, claiming fourth in the 400m with a time of 50.57.

Sara Macey leads the 49er women in fifth place as she has accumulated 2,811 points through four events of the heptathlon. Macey, who is coming off an individual victory in the high jump at the Steve Scott Invitational last weekend, established a personal-record 5-08 to tie for second. That mark should be good enough to get her to the NCAA West Regionals. Macey also finished 10th in the shot put (30-02.75).

Rebecca Hamilton currently sits in 14th with 2,435 points.

Long Beach State closes out the Big West Multi-Events Championship on Saturday, May 8. The decathlon gets underway with the 110m hurdles at 11 a.m., while the heptathlon events begin with the long jump at 1 p.m.
