Junior Randi Hicks has been named the Big West Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Hicks, a transfer from Cal Poly Pomona and native of Oxnard, had a record-setting performance in the javelin at the Ben Brown Invitational last Saturday. She established a conference and school record as she won the event with her effort of 170-10.
Hicks, who bettered her previous lifetime best by over 18 feet, topped the conference record of 169-04, which was held by LBSU alum Kim Heinz. Her performance was also one of the 49ers’ 31 Big West qualifying marks on the day.
The Long Beach State track and field team returns to action when it sends a small contingent of athletes to the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, March 12-13.
