Senior Kenneth Medwood was tabbed the Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday. It is Medwood’s first career weekly honor and the third for Long Beach State this season.

Medwood defended his 400-meter hurdle title at the Beach Invitational as he broke a 24-year old school record, finishing ahead of the pack in 50.37 seconds. That mark also was also a new meet record.

Medwood also finished third in the long jump (23-10.25) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (21.49), establishing season bests in both events.

Medwood currently ranks first in the Big West in the 400 hurdles, second in the long jump, fourth in the 200m and eighth in the 400m.

The 49ers are back in action this weekend as they send a split squad to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the UCSD Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.
