No. 46 Long Beach State returned to action on Thursday and eased to a convincing win over Eastern Michigan, defeating the Eagles 6-1.
The 49ers swept the doubles point in impressive fashion, dropping only five games in the three matches, including 8-1 wins from Alawi/Manasse and Jeczmionka/Cantlay.
That success continued in singles, as all four of those players won a second match on the day. Manasse rolled over Celine Donnet 6-0, 6-0 and Alawi picked up a win at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-2 over Xu Chang. Sarah Cantlay defeated Rumbidzai Muskwe 6-1, 6-0, and Jeczmionka won in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 against Marcela Rivero.
Deborah Armstrong also had a quick match against Georgia de’Lisle-Tarr, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. The only loss for the 49ers on the day came at No. 1 singles, where Eastern Michigan’s Miriam Westerlink defeated Anais Dallara 6-4, 6-3.
Long Beach State is scheduled to return to Big West play on Saturday, when the 49ers host UC Davis at 2 p.m. in the Rhodes Tennis Center.
