As the ITA Regionals drew to a close Sunday, so did LBSU Tennis’ fall schedule.  Fortunately, they still had four players in competition at the end of the day. Stephanie Jeanes and Deborah Armstrong shared top billing, both reaching the consolation singles finals.

Armstrong took down UC Santa Barbara’s Rachel Murphy to finish on top of her half of the back draw, while Jeanes won a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Katie Williams of UNLV. The 49er coaches decided to not have the teammates play each other for the consolation title, and instead the shared the honor of each reaching the finals.

In doubles action, Jeanes and her partner Hannah Grady were finally stopped in the main draw, falling to second-seeded Hein and McKenna of Arizona State in an excellent 9-7 match. In the back draw, Armstrong and Lisa Sutton picked up a win to move to the consolation finals over Oki and Regatta of UC Riverside 8-6, but lost in the championship 8-6 to Kobuch and Peter of Hawai’i.

Long Beach State tennis will be back in action in January for team play.
