Hannah Grady completed an amazing run at Long Beach State, becoming the first player ever to be named Big West Player of the Year four times. 49er head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello also was named Coach of the Year for a record sixth time.
Grady posted an 11-0 record at No. 1 singles in Big West singles, leading The Beach to a sixth consecutive Big West title. Over her career, Grady was 43-1 in Big West play, and posted a 20-5 singles record in 2009 dual matches.
Hilt-Costello, in addition to assembling the team’s perfect run through the conference, guided the team to a sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and a No. 50 ranking with an 18-7 overall record. In the last four years, her team has a 29-1 record in Big West play and has won the conference title all four years.
The 49ers had six of seven players honored on the all-conference list. In addition to her Player of the Year honors, Grady was also named to the singles first team, and along with her partner Jessica Weeks earned first-team doubles honors.
Sophomore Deborah Armstrong was also a double honoree, taking second-team All-Big West honors in singles, and garnering a second-team all-Big West doubles selection with fellow sophomore Lisa Sutton.
Freshman Rachel Manasse also earned second-team honors in singles, and Anais Dallara was picked as an honorable mention in singles.
