Long Beach State continued its winnings ways Saturday against UC Davis, winning 7-0 and beating the Aggies in all nine matches on the day. The victory was also win No. 200 in the career of head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello.
Due to rains in the area, Long Beach State and the Aggies started the day with singles play after hard work by the staff and boosters to get the courts dry in time for an 11:30 start. The action was quickly decided after that with six wins in singles. Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar took identical 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, and Jaklin Alawi won her first match at No. 1 singles over Desiree Stone 6-2, 6-3.
Deborah Armstrong was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Herzyl Legaspi at No. 3 sinlges, and Rachel Manasse also won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 over Lauren Curry. The final singles match was decided when Anais Dallara got back on track with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Dahra Zamudio.
Dominance from The Beach continued in doubles, as the team swept the doubles point as well. Armstrong and Dallara didn’t drop a set against Curry/Eades, and Alawi/Manasse and Cantlay/Luzar each both won with an 8-3 tally.
Long Beach State continues a nine-match homestand next week, hosting CS Fullerton and Nevada beginning on Thursday, March 11.
